| James Taliaferro has served as Superintendent of Schools of Slaton ISD for five years. Dr. Taliaferro holds the degrees of Bachelor and Master of Music Education from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas; Master of Educational Administration from West Texas State University in Canyon Texas; and the degree of Doctorate of Education from Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas. Taliaferro began his career as a band director in Sublette, Kansas. He also directed bands in Gruver and Stratford, Texas before serving as a principal in Stratford ISD. In 2000 he was named Superintendent of Schools at Stratford ISD and served that position for five years. In 2005 Taliaferro was named Superintendent of Schools in Slaton, Texas, where he continues to serve. Dr. Taliaferro is active in Texas Association of School Administrators and currently serves as the Region 17 president of that organization. He also is the Region 17 representative to the Texas Education Agency Commissioner’s Cabinet. | ![]() |
