Jayton Rainey Science Fair Super Star

Jayton Rainey has worked hard and spent many long hours working and reworking his experiment, data, and research. He has worked closely with Professor Michael San Francisco at Texas Tech University. Jayton has a real interest in making a difference through his research and helping not only the agricultural community, but the public as well. He is working to make the environment safer for all of us.
Through his work on science fair, Jayton has had many opportunities, experiences and he has won many awards. At the state level he has won first, second, third, and two fourth places during his five years of competition. He also won the Governor’s Science and Technology Academy of Champions Award ($2500). Jayton won a $10,000 scholarship at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Association Agriscience Fair. He will competed again in the National FFA Agriscience Fair this past October.
During the 2008-2009 school year, at the regional fair Jayton won:
• South Plains Regional Science Fair: 1st Place Biological (10th grade)
• College of Agricultural Science & Natural Resources: High Individual Award Biological Sciences Division ($1000. Scholarship)
• TIEHH Outstanding Environmental Award
• Texas Commission On Environmental Quality: Outstanding Environmental Awareness Award
• United States Air Force: Outstanding Science Fair Project (Backpack, MP3 player, pen)
• South Plains Regional Science & Engineering Fair Award of Excellence ($25.00)
• South Plains Regional Science: Best of Show – Gold Medal, Biological Division
• Intel’s International Science and Engineering Fair: Finalist, Gold Medal Winner
• FFA State Fair $1000.00
• FFA National Fair $400.00
During May 2009, Jayton and Ms. Singleton along with the regional director, Sandy Hancock, and a student and teacher from Christ the King all traveled to Reno, Nevada to the International Science Fair. Jayton participated in the International Science Fair for the first time as a freshman. That year the contest was held in Atlanta, Georgia and was great experience for Jayton. His sophomore year, he won 4th Place in the Microbiology Division. This year as a junior, Jayton won third place in Microbiology. Next year, ISEF will be held in Los Angeles California.
