Computer Assisted Instruction at Cathelene Thomas Elementary School
There are three computer labs at Thomas Elementary School. Computer Assisted Instruction (CTI) extends the opportunity for learning to students who need additional time to master new learning, review previous learning, and extend thinking skills. Students are scheduled into the computer rooms as part of the school's enrichment classes, intervention efforts, and technology education. Students learn computer literacy, keyboarding, and beginning word processing, in grades PK-3 through SRA Technology Applications. Practice and review is offered in math, reading, and science through Plato and Study Island software. Thomas Elementary students participate in the Reading Counts program, which requires students to read library books and then take tests on the books in the computer room, library, and classroom. Students earn points that may be traded for prizes, parties, or field trips. Teachers use computers for attendance accounting, grade reporting, word processing, and web based learning activities. More and more textbook applications will be added to the district's instructional efforts as the State moves toward the use of technology to deliver curriculum and instruction. Computers are used in every classroom, the library, and offices at Cathelene Thomas Elementary School. We are very proud of our TEA exemplary rating and certainly, the district's investment in CTI is a part of that continued success.
