The campus guidance committee at Cathelene Thomas Elementary has selected the YelloDyno Program as the antivictimization program to be used with the pre-kindergarten/kindergarten/second and third graders. The program has been used at Cathelene Thomas for the past three years. Some but not all of the topics taught include:
- I always ask my parents before I go with someone.
- I learn that tricky people are determined by what they ask me to do rather than how they look.
- My body is mine, mine, mine!
- They learn how to say no and deal with people that want them to go with them when the situation is not safe.
- They also learn to not keep secrets that make them feel unsafe.
First graders this year will have the Protecting You/Protecting Me program delivered by Managed Care of Lubbock as their antivictimization program. This particular program teaches students to say no to drugs and alcohol as well as how to protect themselves in situations where these are found. This particular program is MADD’s National Elementary School Project. Parents were informed about both of these programs and needed to sign permission for their son and/or daughter to be involved in either of these programs.
