Teachers Get Ready for New School Year
The week before the students’ arrival, teachers spent time preparing classrooms and participating in staff development. One major focus of training was inclusion and the Co-Teach Model of instructional delivery. Trainers Twilla Rex and Gail Madison from Stephen F. Austin and SELCO respectively along with Vicki Berrier from ESC Region XVII lead training for elementary and secondary teachers. The Co-Teach Model provides two teachers, or one teacher and one paraprofessional/support facilitator in one classroom of both general education and special education students. This allows for greater differentiation of instruction.
Other staff development included a half day session for elementary and secondary teachers with Jo Moscarro, a consultant from San Antonio, who gave very practical solutions on how to obtain desired student replacement behaviors. Evaluations of the training were overwhelmingly positive with a number of requests to bring Jo back to the district.
