The Tigerettes traveled to Tulia Tuesday to compete at the Area Track Meet.  The top 4 finishers advance to the Regional Track Meet at Abilene Christian University on April 27 and 28, 2018.

Tigerette Track Team 

The Tigerette Track Team competed at the 74th West Texas Relays. The Tigerettes finished with 172 points and are the West Texas Relays Division II (1A-4A) Champions.  The Red was on the podium a lot. Canyon High School set the West Texas Relays Meet record for the 4x200m Relay in 2004.  The Tigerettes broke that record Friday with a time of 1:45.05.  This team is moving well this year.  We will get faster and stronger from here.  The Tigerettes travel to Seminole for the TRIBE Relays on Thursday March 22, 2018.

One Act Play Performance
Please join the Slaton High School theater department tonight as they put on a performance of Eurydice. Performance begins at 6pm. Tickets are $3 at the door. If you can't make it tonight, no worries. Other schedule performances are Sunday, March 4 and Wednesday, March 7. 

Powerlifting Send Off
We have 7 female student athletes that have qualified for the Regional Meet!  They will leave this Thursday morning to head to Monahans in hopes of qualifying for state.  Please join us in celebrating their success and wishing them good luck Thursday morning with a sendoff.

On Saturday we had 4 students compete at VASE, Visual Art Scholastic Event, which is the art equivalent of UIL.  They speak with a juror one on one about their artwork and are judged on originality and technique as well as how well they expressed their ideas.  They are then scored and given a rating I-IV with IV being the highest.  Out of all the pieces that receive a IV, the top 10% are chosen to advance to State.

Spring Break of 2019 - New York City Trip
There will be a parent meeting on February 28 in the Auditorium at 6pm. The NYC Trip 2019 will give students the opportunity to take in two Broadway plays, tour the 9/11 memorial, a tour of NBC Studios, discover NYC cuisines, and it will include a professional tour guide for the five day excursion. Dates are still tentative depending on Spring Break dates but more details can be found at the link below.

The trip is with Explore America and the parent meeting will include more trip detail and payment plans as well as discussing future fundraising opportunities.

Letter Jackets

Balfour will be here on Monday, April 23rd for letter jacket fittings and orders during the lunch hour in the Library.


We had three students from the choir perform at UIL Solo/Ensemble contest this Saturday. Two of our students, Mackenzie Carlson and Joshua Koontz earned II ratings while Garrett Emerson earned a I rating which makes him eligible to go to state. These are the highest ratings you can earn and competing in this competition is an accomplishment in itself! Don't forget to congratulate them on a fantastic job this weekend. We are so proud of them!

Children's Miracle Network

This is will be our 2nd year participating in this campaign to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network.  Here are some of the activities we have coming up this week.

  • Beginning tomorrow, we will be competing for the 2nd period Power Hour Pizza Party.  The 2nd period class who raises the most money by 4:00 this Friday, will have a pizza party the entire Power Hour.

 Some of the activities we have scheduled for next week include:

·        Monday 2/5 Thursday 2/8 & Friday 2/9 - $1 Cap Day

·        Penny Wars between classes (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th) all week – each penny earns your class a point, every silver coin deducts points

·         Just Dance Tournament – Tuesday, Feb 6 in the old gym after the boys varsity basketball game.  $2 entry fee to have your name entered onto the bracket.

Children's Miracle Network
On January 16th, three officers of our Student Council attended theChildren’s Miracle Network – Miracle Pennies Kick Off luncheon.  President Bailey Garcia, Secretary Azul Vasquez and Treasurer Angela Sanchez enjoyed a lunch at UMC and then took a tour of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where they were able to see some of the equipment and supplies purchased with Miracle Pennies funds raised.  The Slaton High School Student Council will host two weeks’ worth of events to raise money for this year’s campaign.

Prom season is coming up quickly. We have scheduled a meeting for parents of juniors on Monday, January 29 at 6:30pm in the Slaton HS Library. We will discuss preparations for prom.
